Saint of the Day  (December 02)  ✠ Blessed Maria Angela Astorch ✠  Religious and Founder:  Born: September 1, 1592 Barcelona, Spain  Died: December 2, 1665 Murcia, Spain  Venerated in: Latin church  Beatified: May 23, 1982 Pope John Paul II  Blessed Maria Angela Astorch was a Spanish religious figure and mystic. Born in Barcelona, she founded the Capuchin Poor Clares of Zaragoza and Murcia. She died in Murcia and was beatified by Pope John Paul II on 23 May 1982.  A Very Young Postulant: Mother Mary Angela Astorch was given the name Jeronima Mary when she was baptized in Barcelona in 1592. She had lost both her parents by the age of five and was reared by a nanny. Saint of the Day  (December 01)  ✠ St. Edmund Campion ✠  Religious, Priest and Martyr:  Born: January 24, 1540 London, Kingdom of England  Died: December 1, 1581 (Aged 41) Tyburn, Kingdom of England  Venerated in: Catholic Church  Beatified: December 9, 1886 Pope Leo XIII  Canonized: October 25, 1970 Pope Paul VI  Feast: December 1  Saint Edmund Campion was an English Catholic Jesuit priest and martyr. While conducting an underground ministry in officially Anglican England, Campion was arrested by priest hunters. Convicted of high treason, he was hanged, drawn and quartered at Tyburn. Campion was beatified by Pope Leo XIII in 1886 and canonised in 1970 by Pope Paul VI as one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales.
